Badger Prairie Trail Work Day
A trail work day will be happening on Sunday, October 16 at 1pm at Badger Prairie County Park. Volunteers will be helping to construct a new trail that will go up the hill near the water tower. This site used to be home to a small singletrack trail which was lost once the area was cleared of invasive species and returned to a prairie. However, now that the Badger Prairie County Park master plan calls for cyclocross as one of the park’s main uses it is time to construct the first new section of trail.
John Ericsson and Renee Callaway have been working with the park throughout the summer to approve the construction of this trail. “Dane County Parks is excited to have cyclocross as a significant use for Badger Prairie and I’m excited we will be building the first of many new pieces of cyclocross trail,” said Callaway. This new trail will be available for anyone out training at the park or for the numerous races that are held throughout the year. The hill will probably be rideable for many but many races will probably elect to use it as a run-up. It will also offer variety for those who enjoy riding at Badger Prairie. This new piece of trail is also anticipated to be a part of the cyclocross nationals course.
This first work day will be focused on removing rocks, smoothing out the trail and spreading mulch. If you will be attending please RSVP.
