Some of you may wonder what the deal is with MadCross.  MadCross started very simply when Renee Callaway took a few photos of friends at a cross race back around 2000 or so.  Renee had sprained her knee so wasn't racing.  Of course, friends showed the photos to others so then friends of friends wanted to have photos taken.  Then complete strangers asked to have their photos taken.  Renee started by just putting the photos on a basic photo sharing site.  Then an informal website was stated to add write ups about the races.

Next thing it seemed like a good idea to buy a domain name and start a real website.  Then Renee went to the Banff Film Festival and was inspired to buy a video camera.  Of course, all those photos and videos take up space so upgrades to the website were needed and a real photo site was needed.  The new photo website allowed for the sale of photos which helps defray the website costs.

Renee also uses MadCross.org to do some fundraising each year for racers headed to CX Worlds.  Unfortunately USA Cycling provides minimal to no assistance to our cyclocross team.  Last year calendars and posters were sold to benefit Tristan Schouten's trip to Worlds.  In addition, each year a compilation of videos from the season is made available for a donation to the World's team.

However, the main purpose of the MadCross.org site is to serve as a way to promote our local race scene and to get more people excited about trying the sport.
