WCA Cross racing continues at Cam-Rock and Lapham Peak
Saturday's racing at Cam-Rock County Park was a sunny, beautiful fall
day with over 220 racers coming out to contest this classic cyclocross
race. Sunday's racing was a "Belgian" kind of day with lots of
rain and mud greeting racers at Lapham Peak State Park.

Wisconsin UCI Racing Day Two: Page and Elliott again
Sunday's Jonathan Page Planet Bike Cup elite men's race had a stacked
field with Jonathan Page (Planet Bike),
Todd Wells (GT),
Tim Johnson (Cyclocrossworld.com-Cannondale), Bjorn Selander
(Ridley) and Troy Wells (Clif
Bar) in Wisconsin for the race. Add to this three Swiss riders,
a Canadian and riders from throughout the US and the racing was fast
from the start.
Page, Johnson and the Wells brothers quickly got off the front of the
field with Swiss rider Michael Muller (Planet Bike) chasing on his own.
Page made three visits to the pits to swap bikes but made his way back
to the group each time. However, when Johnson was forced to go into the
pits Page and Todd Wells got a gap and the race turned into a two man
show. The crowd, filled with local Planet Bike and GT employees as well
as fans from throughout the Midwest, went crazy as Page and Wells
matched each over the barriers and up the run up and through the twisty
grass chicanes. With one lap to go it was any man's race as they headed
up the last hill to the finishing straight. However, in the end Page
had just that little bit more and took his second win of the weekend.
In the elite women's race Natasha Elliott (EMD Serono/Stevens) once
again dominated the race and took an early lead that no one could
challenge. Just behind her though Sarah Kerlin (HRS/Rock Lobster) was
locked in a duel with Junior National Champion Anna Young (Planet
Bike). Going into the last lap Young was on Kerlin's wheel and made a
pass on the run-up. However, the experienced Kerlin bided her time and
on the climb to the finish surged ahead to hold on to second place with
Young just behind in third.

Page, Elliott
takes opening day in Wisconsin UCI Cyclocross Weekend
At Jonathan Pages Planet
Bike Cup the elite men’s race was won by no other than Jonathan Page
himself. The race turned into a one-man show after Jonathan Baker
(Vitamin Cottage) sliced open his ankle forcing him out of the race and
Todd Wells (GT) had to make two stops in the pit and chase back from
deep in the field. Michael Mueller also riding for Planet Bike took
second. Bjorn Selander (Ridley) and Troy Wells (Clif Bar) battled all
race but Selander held on for 3rd. Todd Wells (GT) fought
back throughout the race working his way through the large field to grab
5th place.
The women’s field at Jonathan
Page’s Planet Bike Cup was filled with most of the Midwest’s top
cyclocross racers but Canadian Natasha Elliott (EMD Serono/Stevens) was
carving the turns and accelerating up the climbs and rode away for the
victory. Sarah Kerlin (HRS/Rock Lobster) finished second.
Illinois’Devon Haskell (Pony Shop) was the top Midwestern finisher but
17-18 National Champion Anna Young (Planet Bike) was just seconds
behind. Kathy Sherwin (Velo Bella-Kona) rounded out the top 5.
Racing continues on Sunday at
Angell Park with Day Two of Jonathan Page’s Planet Bike Cup.

Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) grabbed his second
UCI cyclocross victory at Michigan's Double Cross race on Sunday.

Jonathan Page wins Saturday's
Double Cross UCI race in Michigan; Marko Lalonde 4th
Despite
mechanicals that forced bike changes Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) had a
substantial lead to take his first cyclocross victory of the season.
Early in the race his seat broke off and he made a bike change.
However, the handlebar on that bike twisted and he made another bike
swap. In 2nd place was Swiss rider Michael Mueller who also had to
make bike changes after flatting during the race. Marko Lalonde
(Planet Bike) took 4th place. Check
Jonathan's website or
Marko's website for all the info.

Jonathan Page wins the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival
For Jonathon Page (Planet
Bike/Ridley), the 2008 Chequamegon
Fat Tire Festival was only the second ride on his new mountain bike,
but he made the most of it. The 2006 World Cyclocross silver medalist
bridged across to Jeff Hall (Salsa) with eight miles to go and then
powered away from Hall on the last climb to win the Chequamegon 40 by
eight seconds. T.J. Woodruff (BMC) rolled in 40 seconds behind Page for
third place.
Jonathan Page clinic kicks off Wisconsin cross season
Over
45 crossers turned out on Labor Day weekend to learn the secrets to
cyclocross success. Jonathan Page as well as Jesse LaLonde,
Kristin Wentworth, Anna Young and Bob Downs were on hand to help riders
refine their cyclocross skills. The participants practiced their
mounts, dismounts, bike carrying and cornering skills. In
addition, riders had the chance to do a little "bike bumping" game and
to see who would be the last one riding. Although the Planet Bike
team may have some of the best known riders no one took it easy on them!
The day ended with a cookout so everyone could hang out and talk about
cross with like-minded folks.
