Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championships a roaring success

Due to the flu MadCross was not able to make it to the state championships but all the talk afterwards was about the amazing superfans and the good times had racing.  Some of the superfans helped document the action.

Due to other life obligations MadCross was not able to make the reschedule Gibbs Lake cyclocross race.  Luckily others were out to enjoy the race and capture some action.

Women's Racing

Wisconsin is lucky to have such a vibrant women's cyclocross racing scene with top elite, junior and master's women.  Although 2009 was a tough year in some regards with many women out with injuries or other reasons the racing was still of the highest caliber.  Wisconsin is the envy of many states with not only top male racers but just as many top female racers.  MadCross has always been and will always be strongly in support of equal prize money as well as equal opportunities for the women.  It seems unfair to penalize people who show up for those who don't especially when on any given weekend it could be a men's category that is small and not just a women's category.  Wisconsin cyclocross has for many years been a leader when it comes to gender equity.  However, not all race promoters feel that the women's fields deserve equal prizes.  That is unfortunate and in the opinion of MadCross and Renee Callaway a step backwards.  Hopefully that will not be a trend that continues into 2010.

However, racers love to have photos and other coverage so instead of penalizing the fans and racers the intended coverage boycott will not occur and photos and links are posted here.

Another warm day at Estabrook greets riders

Unseasonal weather continued at Estabrook Park in Milwaukee.  Some changes were in store to this classic cyclocross course with a spiral, some new twists and turns and a new exit to the run-up.  Planet Bike's Kristin Wentworth took the win in the elite women's race and Planet Bike's James LaLonde won the elite men's race.

A hot and hilly day at Whitewater Cross

Unseasonal temperatures and sunshine greeted racers at Whitewater Cross.  Combine that with a hilly course and riders legs and lungs were crying for mercy.  In the elite women's race Kristin Wentworth (Planet Bike) notched another win and in the elite men's Scott McLaughlin (Sram) rode away from the field for the win.

Wentworth and Schouten take the wins at Halloween Cross

Riders were treated to a windy day at Washington Park for Halloween Cross.  That didn't stop people from showing up in every type of costume to tackle a course that included just a bit of mud after a rainy week.  In the elite women's race a devilish Kristin Wentworth (Planet Bike) took the win.  For much of the race Kaitie Antonneau (Planet Bike) was in second but late race dereailleur issues forced her to run to the pits opening the door for Samantha Schneider (Team Type 1) who was just behind her to claim second with Holly Klug (Courage) to take third.  In the men's race Tristan Schouten (Planet Bike) soloed in for the win with James LaLonde (Planet Bike) in second and Kevin Klug (Courage) in third.

Peloton Pix - Vote in the costume contest

Costumed Cyclocross Racers to Invade Washington Park on Halloween

Washington Park’s landscape will turn spooky yet family-friendly this Saturday, Oct. 31, as hundreds of cyclocross racers in costume will compete in the Annual Halloween Classic Cyclocross Race hosted by the Velo Trocadero Cycling Team.

Races are open to cyclocross racers of all skill levels, with the first cycling ghouls taking the course at 9:45am. The 1.5 mile rolling, grassy loop will feature coffin hops and a run-up capped by a Halloween Party sponsored by Team Expo.

Families are encouraged to come cheer on costume-clad riders throughout the day as they compete for over $1,100 in cash plus merchandise courtesy of Wheel & Sprocket and Brookstone Homes.

A free, 50-yard Kid’s Race at 11:45am, open to young riders of all ages and abilities, will feature Halloween candy prizes to all. Costumes are encouraged for kids and parents alike!

Monster appetites will be satisfied with food and beverage from Trocadero Café, and the witches brooms will stay operational thanks to the on-site Wheel & Sprocket mechanics.

The seventh race of the Planet Bike Cyclocross Series, the Velo Trocadero Halloween Classic is all about family fun. No experience is required, and any off-road bike is sufficient to get through the course. Helmets are required. Being a USA Cycling permitted event, licenses are required but one-day licenses can be purchased on-site in Washington Park, which is located on North 41st Street between Vliet and Lisbon in Milwaukee. Wis.

Race participation fees are $27 ($10 for the second race), with Juniors just $15. Visit velotrocadero.com, or wicycling.org for complete details.

Gibbs Lake and Whitewater races rescheduled

Gibbs Lake has been rescheduled to Sunday, November 15 and Whitewater has been rescheduled to Saturday, November 7.  The WCA and the race promoters appreciate racers understanding about the rescheduling and hope that racers will be able to make these new dates.  It is unfortunate that cyclocross would have to be canceled due to weather but it is also important to maintain good relationships with land managers who in the end have the final say on the races happening on their property.

Gibbs Lake and Whitewater WCA Cyclocross Races Canceled

Due to the recent and forecasted continued rain both Gibbs Lake and Whitewater WCA Planet Bike Series races have been forced to cancel.  This is very unfortunate and every attempt has been made to notify racers.  However, the land managers for both public parks feel that the amount of water already standing on the course and the additional rain expected make it impossible to hold the events.  However, the Gibbs Lake race will be rescheduled for Sunday, November 15.  The Whitewater race will also be rescheduled at a date to be determined next week.  The promoters and the WCA appreciates everyone's understanding of this matter.  It is always a delicate balance to have fun in the mud while still keeping our parks in good condition and maintaining positive relations with the land managers.  There is a Chicago Cross Cup series race on Sunday.  Be aware that if you attend to race the Cat 4 race that the field limits are close to being reached.

Schneider and Klug Dominate Cam-Rock

Samantha Schnedier (Team Type 1) made it two in a row as she stormed to victory at Cam-Rock.  Kevin Klug (Courage) took his first WCA victory in dominant fashion.  Cam-Rock Cyclocross, the oldest continuously running race in the WCA series, was held under sunny skies on a warm fall day.  Racers were treated to a set of fast barriers in the open near the shelter and the short hill run-up that always attracts cowbell ringing fans.  The rest of the course weaves around the woods of Cam-Rock with some short gradual climbs and lots of fun corners.

Schneider and LaLonde Climb to victory at Badger Prairie Cross

It was a beautiful fall day in Verona for Badger Prairie Cross and riders were treated to climbs, climbs and then more climbs on the course which twisted through the prairie.  As if the climbs weren't enough there was a tricky uphill barrier section that required a fast remount to a downhill and a 90 degree turn back up.  The usual set of barriers in front of the shelter also provided good spectating.  In the Elite Women's race Sam Schneider (Team Type 1) took her 2nd victory of the season in decisive fashion.  She was followed in by Meghan Korol (Bob's Red Mill) and Holly Klug (Courage).  In the Elite Men's field Mark LaLonde (Planet Bike) soloed in for the victory.  The next steps of the podium were a huge battle but Scott McLaughlin (Sram) prevailed over Brian Conant (Pony Shop) and Kevin Klug (Courage).

PumpkinCross Rocks Grafton

Racers were treated to cloudy skies, sun, and a little snow flurry at the inaugral PumpkinCross in Grafton.  With a course featuring a good hill climb, a small sand pit and some fast barriers racers had a little of everything to challenge them.  Racers also had plenty to entertain them with a pancake breakfast in the morning, Irish punk rock filling the air to entertain the afternoon racers and beer and brats for post-race.  In the elite races the women's event was dominated by Sam Schneider and Meghan Korol and in the elite men's race Chicagoans Brian Conant and Kevin Klug surged away from the pack.

WCA Race 2 - Grafton PumpkinCross

Peloton Pix shot some video of Lime Kiln Park and it looks like a great venue with interesting terrain options.  And they have an Irish punk rock band as well!  Check out the info on their flyer.  Also, MadCross will be offering coverage of PumpkinCross unlike what was reported earlier on this site.  There was a misunderstanding between MadCross and the promoter and it has been very well resolved.  MadCross is sincerely apologetic for this misunderstanding and excited to provide coverage of what looks to be an awesome event.  Thanks to the promoter for the commitment to equity in prizes for male/female categories in 2010.

Wentworth and Lalonde take the wins at Lapham Peak

The WCA Planet Bike Cyclocross Series kicked off under overcast skys at Lapham Peak State Park on Sunday, October 4.  A cool breeze and grey skys made the day feel like cyclocross although rain held off keeping the course dry and fast.  The course featured the usual wide trail with two sets of barriers - one set on a slight uphill that everyone seemed to agree seemed really tall and another set after a 90 degree turn.  In addition, a tough double hill on the backside of the course had the strong riding and the nimble running.  In the elite races two familiar names rose to the top.  For the Elite Women Planet Bike's Kristin Wentworth once again dominated the race with Planet Bike teammate Kaitlin Antonneau in second.  Holly Klug (Courage) missed her start but used her frustration to pedal through the field into third place.  For the elite men it was James Lalonde (Planet Bike) scoring his first victory of the 2009 cyclocross season with Kevin Klug (Courage) dueling hard and taking second.

Big Course Changes for Planet Bike Cup

You read it here first . . . the traditional oak tree lined hill is back in the course.  After much walking, talking and discussing rules and regulations the course has changed to bring back the popular hill above the playground.  For those that have raced Angell Park before you know what this means.  MadCross will post a new map as soon as possible.

Important USGP Information - Parking, Beer, Food

There are some things that racers and spectators need to know about the USGP race before they arrive.  First off is that parking is $3 per day per car.  Some people may not be a fan of this but it is better than raising the price of entry $3 for each person.  Instead a parking fee encourages carpooling which is a good thing.  Sun Prairie is also a nice bike ride from Madison for spectators and bike parking is free.  Also keep in mind before complaining to our parking volunteers about the cost that having the USGP come to town is expensive and that sponsors are hard to come by.  If you want free parking then sponsor the race!

Also, there can be no carry in of alcohol at Angell Park Speedway as it is a violation of their alcohol permit.  We don't want to have issues in the future so please just buy beer at the venue.  The Speedway will be selling Spotted Cow and Honey Weiss at reasonable prices just like last year.  This year there will be two roving beer carts so you don't need to worry about missing the racing action to get a beer!

Once again Market Street Diner will be providing food at the race.  The menu is the same as last year and so you can count on some great food.  Items will include a vegan southwestern wrap, grilled chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich -all for only $4.  You'll also find fruit, pasta salad, great cookies, apple pie and so much more!  The Diner will also have coffee, juice and other beverages on sale.

Volunteers Needed for USGP

With just two weeks until the USGP Planet Bike Cup Region Directors John Ericsson and Renee Callaway are still looking to fill some volunteer positions for the event.  Volunteers will receive a great USGP tshirt, free parking, invitation to a volunteer party and undying gratitude.  Jobs still available for Saturday and Sunday include course crossing marshalls, registration, parking, information person, and course doctor.  Volunteers are asked to take at least a four hour shift.  Volunteers can still race as shift times will be set to accommodate racing needs.  Volunteers are also needed Tuesday night, Wednesday day, and Thursday day for course setup.  If you haven't already volunteered please email Renee with your availability and if you are interested in a  specific job.

Planet Bike Cup Course

The 2009 Planet Bike Cup course has undergone extensive changes and will now include a different section of land at Angell Park Speedway.  Locals will be in for a big suprise on race day as the popular hill located above the playground will no longer be used.  Instead the course will use a different hill located on the land usually used for overflow parking.  In addition the start will not be on the race track as this did not meet UCI standards and with Saturday being a UCI C1 event this change needed to be made.  In stead the start/finish will both be in front of the "beer garden" area.  To keep everyone happy though a 2nd roving beer cart has been added as a UCI C1 event will not be able to happen with just 1 beer cart!

Williamson Bikes & Fitness to host Friday USGP Number Presentation Party

Williamson Bikes & Fitness located at 640 West Washington Ave in Madison will be the location for the Friday night registration and party.  Starting at 6pm everyone is invited to take of their registration (pick up your pre-registered info or register).  In addition the top pro racers will receive their numbers in a special presentation.  Don't miss this opportunity to rub elbows the best riders while enjoying some great food and beverages including New Belgium beer!

Williamson Bikes & Fitness is the official bike shop sponsor of the Planet Bike Cup.  Stop in and check out all the items you need to get your cyclocross season started right.

Team Profile: My Wife Inc

With the My Wife Inc team you either get it or you don't.  The team started last year as an inside joke among friends, but like all good jokes it spread wings, or in their case bunny ears and antlers, and grew into something more.  As you may have noticed the team is focused on cyclocross.  Mike Heenan said, "I think like most people we got into cross from another disciple as something else to do, another reason to buy a new bike and have some fun in the fall.  But cross is interesting in that if you let it take a hold of you it can lead you down a wild and crazy path of tubulars, mud, road trips, and great friends from which there is no escape, and that is why we love it so much."

Now back to the you get "it" or you don't with the My Wife Inc team.  Now as you may have noticed the MWI kits are loud, or deliciously hideous as it has been said one team member is fond of saying but that is part of the "it".  The team is in part a reaction to the disconnect a lot of them have felt on other teams, where there was no relationship between the "sponsors" and team members and they didn't even know everyone on the team.  MWI really wanted a team where they personally knew everyone on the team and everyone shared the same passion for cyclocorss. "The my wife inc team is a team focused around the cross season and it's the shared experiences you get racing week in week out with the same people, those relationships made in the mud, that's what makes our team special," says Mike Heenan.

The team got some publicity earlier this season on
cyclingdirt.org after the USGP in Madison.  The clip was called "Who Wants to Marry Paul Warloski?" and a couple of weeks later some of the team were at the Ohio3 UCI races and someone came up to Paul "Hey I know you, you're that guy from the video - that's awesome!"  That's kind of the way it goes for WWI as their pink easy up has become somewhat of a hub for travelling racers all over the Midwest.  They have made friends in Chicago, Ohio, Kentucky, and racers from Portland, Colorado, Denmark, the East Coast, and Belgium have all spent a little time in the my wife inc tent.

An important thing to know about the team is that they don't have "sponsors" in the traditional sense, it's more of a self sponsored team. The sponsors are the wives, husbands, family, friends, and jobs that allow them to spend an inordinate amount of time, energy, and money racing bikes around in muck and mud every weekend during the fall.  You will never see any sponsor logos, etc. on the my wife inc kit, that's goes against the grain of what the team is about.  It's a public "Thank You" to each team members personal laundry list of sponsors.

As Mike Heenan says, "The name of our team is my wife inc, born from the inside joke, but really it's just a name.  It could have been my family, spouse, or whatever inc, but that's not as funny.  There isn't a requirement of having a wife or even a wife who makes more money than you.  It's just part of the joke - You either get it or you don't."

My Wife Inc doesn't really have a new member policy as they just adopt new friends who get "it."  To learn more about their goings on the team has a website, www.mywifeinc.com and a blog  www.mwicrossteam.blogspot.com.  The blog has race reports from our team members around the Midwest and a bit of inter team trash talking.

Team Profile: Team Magnus

In 2004 Portland Design Works owner, Erik Olson, liked the idea of an Argentina national theme on a cycling jersey and Christopher Berge was talked into buying them in trade for his restaurant logos on the jersey.  And with that Team Magnus was born.  With the team consisting almost entirely of bike shop employees and  restaurant employees Erik Olson told everyone we would be able to crush the competition at cyclocross.  He saw cyclocross as a bunch of roadies trying to ride in the dirt in the fall.  Only a few raced the first year but the team was hooked.

A few years later, and a new green themed jersey saw the team grow almost into a real team and almost registered as an official WCA team.  That didn't happen but Team Magnus continues to be a strong force in the cyclocross series.  The team continues to consist primarily of people in either the restaurant or bicycle business and being on the team does not get you any particular benefits.  The team has an un-official sponsor agreement with Machinery Row Bicycles, Just Coffee, Magnus, Natt Spil, Weary Traveler, Planet Bike, Budget Bicycle Center, Skogen carpentry, Nessala Kambucha and more.

Anybody can join the team according to Luke Batchelor Clark "so long as they don't whine or suck."  Clark also said that "To join you must be willing to drink the lukewarm blubber of a walrus to prove your toughness .  Also you will be required to pay for your new racing kit which may not entitle you to anything.  If you suck or complain too much you may be set on fire."  Sounds like a true cyclocross team!

Strong finishes from Wisconsin Riders at Louisville USGP

On Saturday racers had to contend with a muddy day at stops 3 and 4 in the USGP in Louisville but Wisconsin riders had strong finishes against a strong field.  For the Elite Women Kristin Wentworth (Planet Bike) took home 7th with Kaitie Antonneau (Planet Bike) in 10th.  For the Elite Men Brian Matter (Gear Grinder) finished in 10th with Mark LaLonde (Planet Bike) in 13th.  On Sunday Kristin brought home 8th with Kaitie in 10th.  Mark was 10th and Brian 11th.  The amateur racers from Wisconsin also had great finishes including Planet Bike's Greg Pautsch winning the 55+ each day, Emma Swartz wtih a 1st and 2nd in the Girl's 10-14 and Sarah Huang with a 3rd and 1st in the Cat 3/4 Women's.  Jordan Cullen also of Planet Bike dominated the 15-16 Boys race with 2 wins.  Quite a few Wisconsin riders made the trip south and rode strong races.  Congrats to all!

Chicago Cross Clinic October 31

The Chicago cyclocross clinic will be held on Saturday, October 31st at the Illinois Institute of Technology grounds from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  The clinic will be open to beginner riders including women and juniors. The advance registration fee is $45 and includes all USA Cycling insurances and BikeReg fees.  Same Day-Registration will be $60 (cash only).  The clinic will be led by Randy Warren (XXX Racing AthletiCo) and is being hosted in cooperation with the IIT Collegiate Cycling Team.  Register today.  The first 20 participants will receive free swag thanks to Cycle-Smart and Mad Alchemy.

New Whitewater Course

The venue is still Trippe Lake Park, but the course squeezes every inch out of it. Registration and heated bathrooms are at a centralized shelter next to the beach, which is new for 2009. With the new shelter providing registration, the playground shelter will be a great place to super-fan if the weather is foul. The course is highly spectator friendly, with many fast lanes next to each other, off-cambers and handling sections to keep the attention high.

Gone is the short lap of 2008. The course remains hilly, as the feature is the primary characteristic of the park, but not unfair and with more areas for recovery. The beach was a popular course feature and returns for 2009. Two-way pits and Finish are also new for this year. The map gives you a feel for the changes but remember is subject to change.

Team Profile: Team Pegasus

Team Pegasus has been around for four years now and is a fixture on the cyclocross scene.  The team got its start after it members began to outgrow the alleycat scene and decided to give organized racing a try.  They decided to form their own team after not finding a beginner oriented team that suited them.  Some of the team was into mountain biking and had heard of cross and decided to give cross a try as team member Cale Wenthur says "it involves mud, racing, beers and superfanning: basically our four favorite things."

When asked what set Team Pegasus apart from the other teams out racing cross they said, "We bring the party, basically we are the guys who give you beer handups and heckle you like crazy all over the course every week."

Basically this picture sums up their season so far.  However, they also have some stellar results including a win in the industry race at Cross Vegas by Katy Steudel.  You may have also noticed all their bikes powerdercoated hot pink with sparkles.

Besides cyclocross team members also race track at both Kenosha and Northbrook in Chicago.  They have some road racers based out of Chicago and a group of Wisconsin members that do WEMS, WORS, and the Crystal Ridge series.  They even have one member giving downhill racing a shot.  They also do Tuesday night snow biking on the River Trails in Milwaukee in the winter.

The team reports that they do take new members but don't have an open enrollment as they are looking for people who have the same attitude towards racing that they do.  They like to hang out together so basically the admissions process is to party with them at races and see if it is a fit.  Cale says, "We do like to get rowdy but on occasion we've been known to taking our racing seriously, and we're always respectful and courteous to other racers out there."

Team Pegasus is sponsored by Ben's Cycle and Fitness/Milwaukee Bicycle Co. and Smart Bike Parts in Chicago.  Other sponsors include Beste Scientific Glass, SRAM, Hayes Disc Brakes, Revolution Wheelworks, Cognition Caps, Cafe Centraal restaurant and World Bicycle Relief.

Al Waelchi Memorial Cyclocross race to be held in Shawano on October 10

Flyer
This race is being held in conjunction with the Lutheran Health Fair and a Tri Star Football competition. Because of this a non-cycling audience of over 500 people that are quite interested in seeing what cyclocross is all about will be at the event. The course itself is in one of the parks designed and maintained by Al Waelchli and should provide a rather challenging and exciting event in a beautiful wooded setting right in the center of town.

The races start with the expert riders first. Next the beginner class and finally the main event which will be a Junior / Masters race which will pit younger riders against older riders for what should be an exciting event. It is hoped that this will give Juniors a chance to race in a larger more competitive field. There will be places and prizes awarded for riders based on age categories within the race as well as prizes and placings for women.

The event is being put on as a memorial to Al Waelchli who was a long standing Shawano Optimist member with over thirty years perfect attendance. Al was an alum of UW Stevens Point where he studied forestry and started his career as an internationally recognized forester. To best honor him, the proceeds of the race will be used to create a scholarship in his name to the UWSP.

Note from the USGP Regional Directors

John Ericsson and Renee Callaway, the USGP Regional Directors, would like to extend a huge thanks to all of the volunteers, spectators and racers for making the Planet Bike Cup such a success.  The local cyclocross community worked hard to make this a success and without those efforts this race would not have been a success.  In addition, John and Renee would like to thank all the racers who came from near and far to race in the event.  It was exciting to have such high caliber racing in all the categories from Cat 4 to juniors on up to the elite races.  The spectators were awesome with loud cheering and cowbells.  Many first time spectators commented on how much fun they had coming out to see cyclocross for the first time.  John and Renee hope that everyone had a good experience and will make the 2010 USGP in Wisconsin a must do event!

U.S Gran Prix of Cyclocross Announces 2009 Dates - adds Madison, WI

The series that stoked the exponential growth of cyclocross in the United States - the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross - has announced its dates for the upcoming season.  The 2009 Series returns for a third year to Louisville, KY; Mercer Co., NJ and Portland, OR. The USGP is also pleased to announce its expansion to a fourth weekend of racing with the addition of the Planet Bike Cup in Madison, WI to its lineup.

"We are incredibly happy with how the 2009 season of the USGP is shaping up,” said Bruce Fina, Executive Director, US Gran Prix of Cyclocross.  "The addition of the Planet Bike Cup is tremendous for the Series.  Madison has a great cycling community and the Planet Bike Cup was already a wonderful event. We are thrilled to have added such a strong early season weekend of racing to our schedule.”    Fina continued, “In addition to our new events, we strongly believe that returning to the same three world class venues in 2009 enables both the Series and the sport to grow.   Last year in these venues, we saw bigger fields, bigger crowds and we expect more of the same in 2009.  Combined with the continued strong support of our sponsors and a start-list of top elite athletes we are expecting that the USGP will maintain its distinction as the premier cyclocross series on this side of the Atlantic."

Renee Callaway and John Ericsson, the founders of the Planet Bike Cup share Fina’s enthusiasm, “We're excited to have this opportunity to partner with the USGP.  It's an exciting chance to highlight Wisconsin cyclocross scene and bring the best possible racing to the MIdwest. We're thrilled that the Midwest's elite racers will get to test how they stack up with the best in the country in front of the home crowd.”

SRAM Renews Sponsorship of the US Gran Prix

Organizers of the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross, (USGP) and SRAM are proud to announce that SRAM is returning for their fourth consecutive year of sponsorship of the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross. The USGP is the States premiere CX series that features eight races at four UCI ranked venues that span the entire country. The USGP begins the weekend of Sept., 27 in Madison, WI, with the Planet Bike Cup, moves through New Jersey and Kentucky, and concludes with the Stanley Portland Cup, in Portland, OR, on Dec., 6th.

Sponsorship of the USGP dates back to 2006, when SRAM originally introduced its road gruppos, which now include SRAM RED, Force, and Rival. SRAM componentry is becoming the componentry choice for cyclocross riders, proven by the spec counts at the last several years' events, and Rival has been deemed the best value in cyclocross componentry by VeloNews® magazine.

SRAM has rooted a portion of its road product development in cyclocross, where the challenging conditions can push the limits of componentry. Tim Johnson and Jeremy Powers (both Cyclocrossworld.com) have worked closely with SRAM engineers to further the advantages of SRAM's road groups on the dirt.

SRAM will once again sponsor the "SRAM Most Aggressive Rider Award," which will be awarded to the Men's and Women's pro athletes in each race who provide a great show, deliver an inspiring performance, move up from their original starting position, and obviously ride aggressively. Past winners include Adam Craig, Tim Johnson, Georgia Gould, and Ryan Trebon.

Additionally, the now legendary SRAM NRS crew, who travel 50,000 miles every year in the beautiful SRAM logoed Volvo XC-70's, will provide support to any rider in need of technical assistance prior to or during each of the USGP events.

Series Director, Joan Hanscom, says "We are thrilled to have SRAM back with the USGP for another exciting year of cyclocross action. Over the years they have been an invaluable supporter and enhance the series in so many ways. From having a terrific on-site presence for fans and spectators, offering stellar support and expertise to all athletes regardless of category to making race day even more exciting through the SRAM Most Aggressive Rider Competition, they bring a unique SRAM flavor to the whole USGP experience."

About SRAM: SRAM was founded in 1987 with one single component (Gripshift) and has since evolved into the World's second largest component manufacturer. In 2006 SRAM entered the road component category with the unprecedented introduction of SRAM Force and Rival road groups, which redefined innovation and precision on the road. In 2007 SRAM delivered the world's lightest and most ergonomic gruppo, SRAM RED, which has had unprecedented success in the professional peloton with National, World, Olympic and Grand Tour wins.
